"Yeah, tomorrow."
And you think when you said it,
that maybe you really meant it.
But now, yesterday is too far away to matter
and anyways you can‘t exactly remember
the lies you gave, or even
if the reluctance in your voice was overweighed by the love dripping from every word you said.
But you do remember that when you had turned around, on your way from his house, walking down the sidewalk, that he had looked at you in this way that really made it hit home. That yeah, this is for real this time, and no you’re not just dreaming it up, and did you really give that much thought to the after effects of this, have you thought this through enough to be able to live through it?
You don‘t really care now, doesn’t really matter.
All that matters to you is that yes, you did mean it when you said it, and even now - part of you still means it.
You mean that more than you mean anything, ever.
"Yeah , we‘ll talk about it tomorrow."
Always "tomorrow".
And even then, you knew this tomorrow was the best friend you’d ever had.
Yeah, tomorrow.
… with your head on the wheel
and no reason to go,
anymore.
